Description
A comforting dish featuring succulent cubed steak smothered in caramelized onions and earthy mushrooms, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb cubed steak
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 8 oz mushrooms (button, cremini, or shiitake), sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh herbs (thyme or parsley), optional
Instructions
- Prep the Ingredients: Slice your onions and mushrooms, and cube your steak into hearty portions.
- Sear the Steak: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season the steak with salt and pepper, then sear each piece for about 3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- Sauté the Onions and Mushrooms: In the same skillet, add more oil if needed and toss in onions and mushrooms. Cook until onions are translucent and mushrooms are golden, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add Garlic and Broth: Stir in minced garlic for a minute before adding the broth. Scrape browned bits from the skillet.
- Return the Steak to the Skillet: Place steak back in the pan, let simmer together for 15-20 minutes, adding cream in the last few minutes.
- Final Touch: Taste and adjust seasoning as needed with salt, pepper, and herbs.
Notes
Serve with mashed potatoes or rice to soak up the sauce. Great for adaptations with seasonal vegetables.
