Description
A comforting dish combining savory chicken with the sweetness of spiced apples, perfect for autumn gatherings.
Ingredients
- Chicken thighs or breasts
- Apple cider
- Fresh apples (preferably honeycrisp)
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Allspice
- Butter or olive oil
- Onions
- Garlic
- Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients: Chop onions and garlic, and slice apples into wedges.
- Sear the chicken: In a large skillet, melt butter or heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Season chicken with salt and pepper, then add to the skillet and sear for about 5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove chicken and set aside.
- Sauté the aromatics: In the same skillet, add onions and garlic, and sauté for about 2–3 minutes until translucent and fragrant.
- Add the apples and spices: Toss in apple wedges with spices and stir for about 3 minutes to soften.
- Deglaze with cider: Pour in apple cider and scrape any bits stuck to the bottom, simmering gently.
- Return the chicken: Nestle chicken back into the skillet, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for about 20 minutes until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
- Finish with fresh herbs: Sprinkle fresh herbs over the top and let rest before serving.
- Serve and savor: Serve chicken with spiced apples on the side, spooning sauce over everything.
Notes
Ensure the skillet is hot before adding chicken to prevent sticking. Let the dish rest after cooking for best flavor.
