Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup stone-ground grits
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup aged cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley, for garnish
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring chicken broth to a gentle boil. Gradually whisk in the grits, reduce the heat, and let simmer for about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Add heavy cream, cheddar cheese, and butter to the grits, and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Sauté onion and garlic until translucent.
  4. Add shrimp, season with salt, pepper, and cayenne. Cook until shrimp turn pink, about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Ladle grits onto plates, top with sautéed shrimp, and garnish with parsley and extra cheddar.
  6. Enjoy with loved ones!

Notes

Use good quality cheddar for rich flavors. Avoid overcooking shrimp for best texture.
