Description

A decadent and easy-to-make chocolate cake, perfect for sharing with someone special.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Optional: ½ cup heavy cream and 1 cup chopped chocolate for ganache

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a small round cake pan, about 6 inches in diameter, by greasing it with butter and lining the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda. Whisk until well blended.
  3. In another bowl, beat the sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet, alternating with the milk, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For optional ganache, heat the heavy cream, remove from heat, and stir in the chopped chocolate until smooth and glossy. Drizzle over the cooled cake.

Notes

For a healthier alternative, substitute half of the sugar with ripe mashed bananas or honey. Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results.
