Description

A whimsical and indulgent dessert that’s perfect for celebrations, featuring a rich red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare your cake pans by greasing them with butter and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In one bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well mixed.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and gently tap each pan to release air bubbles.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. To prepare the frosting, whip the cream cheese and unsalted butter until soft and creamy, then gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla until reaching desired sweetness.
  9. Once cooled, frost the layers generously, and decorate as desired.

Notes

To store leftovers, keep in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze individual slices wrapped tightly for up to 3 months.
