Description
Indulge in the rich flavors of Mayan chocolate truffles, featuring dark chocolate, warm spices, and a touch of history.
Ingredients
Scale
- 200g high-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher)
- 100ml heavy cream or coconut milk (for a dairy-free version)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- A pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- A handful of toasted nuts (like almonds or hazelnuts) or shredded coconut (for rolling)
Instructions
- Chop the chocolate finely and place it in a heatproof bowl.
- In a saucepan, gently heat the heavy cream over medium heat until just about to simmer.
- Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for about five minutes.
- Whisk the mixture until completely smooth, then stir in the cinnamon, cayenne pepper, and vanilla extract.
- Allow the ganache to cool to room temperature, then cover and refrigerate for at least one hour.
- Once chilled, roll spoonfuls of the ganache into balls and coat them in toppings.
- Place the truffles on a parchment-lined baking sheet and chill for an additional 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Let the ganache warm slightly after chilling for easier rolling. Feel free to customize the spices to your taste.
