Description

A delightful blend of salty pretzels, creamy caramel, and rich chocolate that creates a comforting treat perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces pretzels (about 3 cups broken pieces)
  • 10 ounces semisweet chocolate (roughly 1 3/4 cups chopped)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or 3/4 cup brown sugar for deeper flavor)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaked sea salt (plus extra for finishing)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup toasted nuts, 1/3 cup toffee bits

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the pretzel pieces in an even layer.
  2. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave in 20-second bursts, stirring each time, until smooth. Spread half the melted chocolate in a thin, even layer over the pretzels.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and butter over medium heat. Stir constantly, and when the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns a deep amber, remove it from the heat.
  4. Slowly whisk in the heavy cream and vanilla; continue whisking until smooth. Fold in the flaked sea salt.
  5. Immediately pour the caramel over the chocolate-covered pretzels, spreading gently. Drizzle the remaining melted chocolate on top and scatter optional toppings. Finish with flaked sea salt.
  6. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes until firm, then break into pieces and serve at room temperature.

Notes

For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free pretzels. Experiment with toppings like chopped toasted nuts or espresso beans for variety.
