Description
Delightful pumpkin pretzels that kids will love, infused with warm spices, making them a festive treat perfect for Halloween gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat flour)
- 1 cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (or white sugar)
- 1/4 cup butter (or vegan margarine)
- 1 packet yeast (instant or active dry)
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- Coarse salt for sprinkling
- Baking soda for boiling
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy (about 5-10 minutes).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and pumpkin puree. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture along with melted butter. Stir until combined.
- Lightly flour your countertop and knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into portions. Roll each into long strips and twist them into classic pretzel shapes.
- Boil the pretzels briefly in a baking soda-water mixture for a chewy crust. Sprinkle with coarse salt and bake until golden brown.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Consider adding pumpkin spice or chocolate chips for extra flavor. Serve warm with dips like cream cheese frosting or chocolate sauce.
