Description
Delicious homemade pretzel bites coated in cinnamon sugar, perfect for gatherings and nostalgic moments.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm water (100–110°F)
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar (for yeast proofing)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 3 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Dissolve 1 teaspoon granulated sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast over and let sit until foamy (5–10 mins).
- Add melted butter, salt, and 2 tablespoons sugar. Stir to combine.
- Gradually mix in flour until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Punch down dough, divide into 24 pieces, shape into knots, and place on baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Simmer 6 cups water and add baking soda. Boil bites for 20-30 seconds per side.
- Brush with egg wash and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter, toss in cinnamon sugar coating, and serve warm.
Notes
For a vegan version, use a flax egg and brush with sugar-water glaze instead of egg wash.
