Description
A delightful combination of buttery caramel, crunchy pretzels, and rich chocolate that balances sweetness with a touch of saltiness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups crunchy pretzels
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 cup soft caramels
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream (or full-fat coconut milk)
- 8 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 tablespoon butter or oil
- Flaky sea salt, for topping
- Optional: toasted nuts (pecans or almonds)
- Optional: a sprinkle of espresso powder
Instructions
- Line an 8×8-inch square pan with parchment paper and preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Crush pretzels coarsely and mix with softened butter and brown sugar. Press into the bottom of the pan and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden.
- Melt caramels with heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until smooth.
- Pour warm caramel over the baked crust and chill for 20 minutes.
- Melt chocolate with butter until glossy and smooth.
- Pour chocolate over the chilled caramel, sprinkle with sea salt and crushed pretzel pieces.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until set, then cut into bars.
Notes
For best results, use a hot knife for cutting. If caramel is too stiff, warm gently before pouring. Don’t skip lining the pan for easy removal.
