Description
A nostalgic and flavorful stuffing recipe that embodies the essence of family gatherings during Thanksgiving, filled with herbs, mushrooms, and rich textures.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf stale crusty bread, cubed
- 1/2 cup salted butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
- 8 oz button or cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 1 tsp fresh sage, chopped (or 1/3 tsp dried)
- 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped (or 1/3 tsp dried)
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cut the bread into cubes and leave them out overnight to dry, or bake at a low temperature until crispy.
- Melt butter in a skillet on medium heat. Add the onions and celery, cooking until translucent. Follow with mushrooms, cooking until golden.
- Add sage, thyme, salt, and pepper, mixing well.
- Toss the bread cubes with the buttery mixture in a large bowl until coated.
- Slowly pour in the broth, stirring until the bread is moist but not soggy.
- Transfer to a greased baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes at 350°F (175°C). Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to crisp the top.
Notes
Ensure the bread is well-dried to absorb flavors without becoming soggy. Taste and adjust seasoning before baking for the best results.
