Ingredients

- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
- Fresh herbs (thyme, chives, parsley, or dill)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
Instructions
- In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt, sautéing while stirring occasionally for about 25-30 minutes until they are soft and golden brown.
- In a bowl, combine 8 oz of cream cheese, 1 cup of sour cream, and 1-2 cloves of minced garlic. Blend until creamy and smooth.
- Allow the caramelized onions to cool slightly, then fold them into the creamy mixture along with your choice of fresh herbs.
- Season to taste with salt and pepper, and add a squeeze of lemon juice if desired.
- Chill the dip in the fridge for at least an hour before serving.
- Serve with an array of fresh vegetables, chips, or bread.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt. Allow the dip to chill for optimal flavor.
