  • Author: clara

  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Paleo

Description

A spicy twist on the classic sloppy joe featuring tender chicken and a blend of Cajun spices.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken (or turkey)
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Buns (soft sandwich or brioche rolls)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add diced onions and bell peppers; sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  2. Increase heat slightly and add ground chicken. Cook for 5-6 minutes until no longer pink, breaking it up with a spatula.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and Cajun seasoning; cook for an additional minute until aromatic.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce and Worcestershire sauce, mixing well. Lower heat and let simmer for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
  5. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as desired.
  6. Scoop the chicken mixture onto buns and serve warm. Optional: Toast buns lightly for added crunch.

Notes

For a leaner option, substitute ground turkey. You can also add zucchini or mushrooms for a vegetarian version.
